TATA Starbucks eyes expansion in metros, high-growth cities

TATA Starbucks plans to expand its presence across metropolitan markets as well as emerging high-growth cities, a top company official said.

The company inaugurated its first Starbucks Reserve store in South India on Thursday, taking its total number of Reserve stores in the country to six.

Besides the new outlet, it has three stores in Delhi-NCR and one each in Mumbai and Kolkata.

“We continue to see opportunities across both established metropolitan markets and emerging high-growth cities. Our focus remains on expanding thoughtfully while ensuring every new coffeehouse delivers the Starbucks Experience our customers expect,” TATA Starbucks CEO Sushant Dash told PTI.

TATA Starbucks, a 50:50 joint venture between Starbucks Coffee Company and Tata Consumer Products, has been serving customers in India since 2012.

The company currently operates more than 500 stores across over 80 cities, making India one of Starbucks’ fastest-growing markets globally, he said.

Dash said India continues to be a strategic growth market for the company, which remains focused on “thoughtful, long-term expansion” by opening coffeehouses in the right locations and in the right formats.

As customer preferences evolve, the company will continue to invest in differentiated coffee experiences, including Starbucks Reserve, while strengthening its footprint across the country, he said.

India remains one of Starbucks’ fastest-growing markets globally, driven by sustained store expansion, beverage and food innovation, and growing customer engagement, Dash said.

According to Tata Consumer Products’ recent Q1 FY27 report, TATA Starbucks recorded an 11 per cent year-on-year revenue growth, driven by strong same-store sales, he said.

The company employs around 4,300 people in India and remains committed to creating opportunities for learning, growth and career development across the organisation, Dash added.
