Milma Ernakulam unit offers Rs 2 per litre incentive to dairy farmers

Milma Ernakulam unit announced an additional incentive of Rs 2 per litre for milk procured through affiliated dairy cooperative societies during May, officials said.

Milma is Kerala’s state-run dairy cooperative brand that procures milk and dairy products from farmers and supplies them to consumers.

A statement said the incentive will be applicable for milk supplied between May 11 and May 31. C.N. Valsalan Pillai, the Union Chairman, noted that the incentive was authorised during a recent session of the organisation’s governing body.

“The benefit will be extended to dairy farmers and primary milk cooperative societies functioning under the union across Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kottayam, and Idukki districts,” the statement said.

The initiative is projected to provide financial support to more than 1,000 primary dairy cooperatives operating within the region. Additionally, Milma officials confirmed that the organisation is currently evaluating a potential retail price adjustment for its dairy products in response to sustained requests from the farming community.
