Jaipur dairy farmers launch ‘M-20’ protest to castigate Centre’s ethanol policy

A group of dairy farmers here announced the launch of “M-20 Movement” against the Centre’s ethanol-blended petrol policy.

The protest movement takes exception to the government’s E20 policy, and likens the blended petrol to adulteration.

Jaipur Dugdh Utpadak Sangharsh Samiti president Raman Yadav said the movement represents dairy farmers, youth, and the general public who have concerns over the ethanol blending policy and its impact.

“The name ‘M-20’ has been adopted symbolically by mixing milk and water, drawing a parallel with the government’s policy of blending ethanol with petrol,” he said at a press conference here.

“As part of the protest, M-20 mixed milk would be sent symbolically to BJP ministers who support the ethanol blending policy,” he said.

Yadav alleged that the government, in the name of blending, was normalising adulteration.

“The policy is affecting consumers, rural transport systems and agriculture, and dairy-based economies,” he said.

Yadav said the campaign was inspired by another protest by dairy farmers in Jaipur, who displayed milk-water mixtures labelled M-0, M-20, M-50 and M-100.

The protesters demand the withdrawal of the ethanol-blended petrol policy and call for an independent inquiry into the beneficiaries and decision-making process behind it.
