Compass Group India, part of the global food catering and facilities management company Compass Group, has reduced food wastage from 8 per cent to 3 per cent through an AI-enabled system and plans to scale the process over the next few years
According to the Sustainability Report 2025, through SmartQ’s AI-led production planning platform, food wastage at the company’s deployed sites reduced from 8 per cent to 3 per cent, while also delivering 2 to 3 per cent monthly cost savings, the company said in a report released on Friday.
“Food waste tracking now covers more than 90 per cent of Compass Group India sites, up from 75 per cent last year, enabling sharper forecasting, better menu planning and lower operational waste across commercial kitchens,” Compass Group India stated.
The company also expanded its sustainability infrastructure across mobility, energy and procurement operations.
“Over the next few years, we will deepen our circular economy approach by scaling AI-enabled food waste reduction. Our in-house developed AI digital food-waste scale and analytics platform will be expanded across a larger share of high-volume kitchens, enabling dish-level insights, predictive forecasting and site-specific action plans,” the report stated.
Compass Group India also plans to scale electric mobility across food logistics, embedding EVs as the default for last-mile distribution.
“We will also evaluate fuel transition pathways, including LPG-to-PNG optimisation and phased introduction of Compressed Biogas derived from segregated food waste for circular energy use,” the company said.
