Cargill has reduced CO₂ emissions at its Baupte site in Normandy, France, by 45% following the modernisation of one of its most energy-intensive production processes.
The project, supported by an investment, the site’s energy efficiency and industrial performance has been improved to reduce emissions by around 13,700MT per year. The most energy-intensive process at Baupte has now been modernized by introducing Mechanical Vapor Recompression (MVR) technology. By capturing, recompressing and reusing vapors, MVR significantly improves efficiency while maintaining performance. Carrageenan produced at Baupte supports the development and reformulation of everyday products, including dairy desserts, chocolate milk, plant-based alternatives, confectionery and sauces. It delivers the texture, creaminess and consistency that consumers expect, even as they seek out plant-based, gelatin-free or dairy-free options.
