A Jaipur-based confectionery outlet has introduced a gold coin-shaped sweet priced at Rs 1,111 for a 9-gram piece, equivalent to around Rs 1.23 lakh per kg, giving traditional Diwali gifting a luxury twist.
Called ‘Tyohar Asharfi’, the sweet has an almond-based core infused with edible gold (swarn bhasm) and is finished with a layer of gold leaf and saffron. It is also available in a box of nine pieces priced at Rs 9,999.
“We wanted to recreate the traditional asharfi, associated with the era of kings and maharajas, in an edible form,” said CA Anjali Jain, founder of Tyohar Outlet. She said the Rs 1,111 price was picked for its auspicious significance, and that the sweet was designed as a luxury Diwali gift symbolising prosperity and peace.
The outlet has also launched “Tyohar Navratna,” a collection of nine kaju katli varieties inspired by traditional gemstones. These include a pistachio-based green kaju katli inspired by emerald, a saffron-flavoured yellow one representing yellow sapphire, rose-flavoured sweets inspired by coral, and strawberry-flavoured ones representing ruby. The range also features classic, rose and mango kaju katli, along with matcha and other flavours. Jain said the products use natural colours and flavours, with no artificial colours.
