The Food Safety and Drug Administration department conducted a special inspection at a food and grocery supply warehouse serving major hotels and restaurants in the city, officials said .
The inspection was conducted by the Food Safety Division of the department on August 11 at the unit in Sakalawara Nagara, Sakalawara, Bengaluru Urban District, following the directions of Health and Family Welfare Minister U T Khader, they said.
The unit, operated by a popular online food delivery platform, was inspected as part of a drive under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and Rules, 2011.
In a statement, the Food Safety and Drug Administration department said that during the inspection, the premises was found to be clean and tidy. However, officials observed that the FSSAI license number of the manufacturer was not found for 146 kg chicken, while the FSSAI license of the manufacturer of 40 kg of garlic was not in force.
Mislabelling was found in packed items, including 300 kg of rice, 20 kg of dry fruits and 15 kg of masala, the department said. Further, 10 kg of imported radish pickle was not kept in a refrigerated place as required by the labelling condition. The department has collected 40 samples during the inspection, including five legal samples and 35 survey samples. In this regard, a notice has been issued to the concerned unit, and further legal action will be taken as per the prescribed provisions, the department added.
